Future inventory is forecast when plant material is entered into the
production system via that button in the lower left corner of the inventory
screen.  This can be a planned future production, although most growers
enter the data when plants are first propagated or lined out in the field.
When you choose to create a forecast is a management decision.
At the time we record a production “planting”, we tell the computer what
future sales season we expect to sell this material.  The computer refers
to one-time set up information that the user has provided about the
normal growth size distribution of each plant variety and predicts the
quantity of each size and grade after normal culling.
These forecast estimates display here.  They are treated as actual inventory.  Sales staff uses these
numbers to make future sales and product availability lists for distribution.   When grading occurs at each
growing location, those numbers are entered and displayed here.  Forecasts are retained to assist future
planning, but the numbers are ignored by the computer once a graded count exists to replace it.  This is
done on a location-by-location basis.  In the screen below, notice that some counts are in while most
inventory is still in forecast status.  This means that a few growing locations have been graded but most
plant grading is not yet complete.
